Michele Zack

Michele Zack is an American journalist. While working for Asiaweek and Far Eastern Economic Review, she lived and worked in Thailand during the 1990s, where she wrote the first version of her book The Lisu: Far from the Ruler, eventually published by the University of Colorado Press in 2017. After returning to California, she began writing regional histories; she was twice recognized by the American Association of State and Local History and received the Pflueger Award. In partnership with the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, she wrote and programmed three federal Teaching American History grants designed to help teachers integrate California and local history into US classrooms. She is currently working on a book about Los Angeles and the Civil War.
