Yuval Sharon

Yuval Sharon is an American opera and theater director based in Los Angeles. He earned a BA in 2001 from the University of California, Berkeley studying English and dramatic arts, before spending a year in Berlin. Sharon founded a theater company called Theater Faction and worked at the New York City Opera, directing its VOX program from 2006 to 2009, before moving to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles he has directed experimental work in opera and founded The Industry to put on innovative productions. Sharon is currently artist-collaborator at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and has also staged productions at the San Francisco Symphony, Carnegie Hall, the Vienna State Opera and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others. Sharon was the first American director at the Bayreuth Festival in 2018. In 2017, he won the MacArthur Genius Grant.
