Penny Wolin

Penny Wolin is an American portrait photographer and a visual anthropologist. She has exhibited solo at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and is the recipient of two grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and one from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her works are held at the Smithsonian American Art Museum; the New York Public Library; Wyoming State Archives; Santa Barbara Museum of Art; and the Layton Art Collection at the Milwaukee Art Museum. She is the author of two photographic monographs, The Jews of Wyoming: Fringe of the Diaspora and Descendants of Light: American Photographers of Jewish Ancestry. She has been commissioned to photograph respected thinkers, activists, musicians, and actors for media outlets such as LIFE, Playboy, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Forbes, Esquire, and Condé Nast Traveler. She was awarded a directing fellowship to the American Film Institute, CAFTS. Wolin is an adjunct professor at ArtCenter College of Design, teaching photography, film analysis, and visual literacy.
