Lisa Bitel

Lisa Bitel is Professor of History and Religion at the University of Southern California. She has written five books and many articles on topics that range from Irish monasticism to medieval cursing, historical dream interpretation, and religious landscapes. Her most recent book, Our Lady of the Rock: Faith and Vision in the California Desert (Cornell University Press), is about a modern visionary who sees the Virgin Mary once a month in the Mojave Desert and the crowds that gather to watch. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two dogs, and wishes her kids would visit more often.
