G. M. Tamás

G. M. Tamás is a Hungarian philosopher, born in 1948 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. A member of the Hungarian-speaking minority who opposed the Ceauşescu regime, he was forced to leave Romania in 1978 and settled in Hungary, where he joined the democratic opposition to the communist regime. During the transition to democracy, he participated in the creation of the SzDSz, the party of the liberal left, and was elected to Parliament. Drawn to Marxism, he left the SzDSz in the late 1990s and became a radical critic of capitalism.
