John Loughery is the author of four books: Alias S. S. Van Dine (1992), John Sloan: Painter and Rebel (1995), The Other Side of Silence: Men’s Lives and Gay Identities, a Twentieth Century History (1998), and Dorothy Day: Dissenting Voice of the American Century (2020). His biography of John Sloan was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Biography. He lives in New York.
