Macleod immigrated to California from Nova Scotia, settling down as a surfer and skateboarder before diving into the local music scene. As an undergraduate, Macleod participated in Berkeley’s East Bay punk scene, then moved to New York’s East Village where he worked for multiple non-profit educational organizations and documentary film companies. His book chronicles the punk rock scene he watched emerge in 1970s Los Angeles. Punk Historian.
